What is the difference between renewal and revalidation?
To maintain your flying privileges, your certificate must either be revalidated or renewed, depending on whether your rating is still valid or has expired.
- Revalidation: If your rating is still valid, you can extend it by meeting certain requirements before the expiration date.
- Renewal: If your rating has expired, a proficiency check (PFC) and possibly additional training is required.
Revalidation of PPL(A) / LAPL(A)
If your certificate is still valid, you can extend it through the "12-hour rule" or a proficiency check:
- At least 12 hours of flying during the last 12 months before expiration
- At least 6 hours as Pilot in Command (PIC)
- At least 12 takeoffs and landings
- At least 1 hour with an instructor (can be replaced by PFC on MEP)
If these requirements are met, an examiner from LenAir can revalidate your rating.
Renewal of an expired certificate
If your rating has expired, a Proficiency Check (PFC) and possibly additional training is required:
- An assessment flight to determine training needs
- Individual training depending on how long the rating has been expired
- A test with an examiner (PFC) after completed training
If your rating has been expired for a short time (< 3 months), it can often be handled with a PFC alone.
